greetings from bombay

so first off, i'm a bit in shock to be honest.
i got in yesterday, leba picked me up from the airport which was
great. she showed me around her neighborhood called bandra (upscale
part of town but you wouldn't really know it), then we got to work. if
you didn't know, i'm working on her little documentary film where
we're interviewing indians about who they would vote for in the
american election. so yesterday and today we did a lot for that...
getting info together, buying supplies, location scouting, etc. it's
actually been a pretty good way to see the "real bombay" i think.

we pretty much stayed around bandra last night. went out to meet some
of leba's friends (locals) which was cool. then surprisingly, i ended
up staying out and going to a club with some of the guys. NOT WHAT I
EXPECTED. i could have been in LA for god's sake. bad techno and weird
rich indian men dancing. depsite all that, it was fun and i met a nice
guy from jaipur that owns a hotel, said he'd "take care of me there"
whatever that means. HA!! no, i think it was genuinely nice, just not
sure if i'm up for that.

today was location scouting for the shoot. that was a very good way to
see the city. we went down to colaba which was really intense for me.
i don't know if it's that i was overly tired (jet lag and staying out
late) or the heat or just being in the place that i've only seen
pictures or read about or imagined, but actually being IN IT was
pretty indescribable. i had an odd combination of nerves from being
stared at and then just seeing what i was seeing. i'm obviously having
a hard time putting words to it. i think i was sort of beating myself
up for feeling the way i was too because i was mad at myself for the
shock i was experiencing. leba and her friend sandra made me feel more
at ease when they said it was totally normal to feel this way on the
first day and to just go with it. that i would eventually get used to
it and start to see the beauty in things. and it's true. on the taxi
ride home i found myself smiling and laughing at scenes of babies
riding on the front of motorcycles, kids playing with skinny goats on
the side of a busy street, chickens flying off of tin sheds, a man
sorting out a giant stack of newspapers for who knows what reason.
just taking it all in, taking it all in.

to be perfectly honest after the feelings i experienced today, i'm
scared to go off into the country by myself. the people are totally
nice and mean well but i think it's mostly just being scared of my own
feelings, if that makes any sense. i was really allowing myself to
FEEL the nerves and discomfort walking through the amazingly dirty,
smelly streets and being asked for money from a one-eyed deformed man.
at this very moment i feel like i'm a little bit crazy for taking this
trip, but i KNOW in my gut that will change and i just have to go with
it. this is my first full day.

i don't want to make anyone nervous (mom and deb!) because i know i'm
going to be fine, i'm just putting my true feelings out there for my
favorite people to read. i have a pretty good feeling i'm going to
head to goa after the shoot to do a little chill out. i was
considering going straight to rajasthan and "get my travel" on but i
think after the chaos of bombay and the shoot, i'll want to relax. i
wonder if the people who live here ever get a chance to relax? it's
seems 10 million times more hectic that any other city i've ever been
in. constant honking horns, people everywhere, the heat, the smells.
all of it. i know i'm not painting the best picture. it's absolutely
fascinating. i was so so so tired on the car journey home, but my eyes
were maybe the widest they've ever been.

and i'm ready for more... just need some sleep.

ok, signing off for now. i'll write again when i can, hopefully a
little more rested and a little more at ease.

WINDY in patagonia

this was the best little movie we got on our trip to torres del paine. we got caught in the gnarliest wind storm ever. having to sit on the ground many times along the way. the walk was only supposed to be 4 hours that day but it took us 6! we even met a couple right after this video was taken who said they had been lifted into the air and knocked down into prickly bushes. pretty intense!

spotted!

spotted!, originally uploaded by megasoul.

one of my favorite pics taken in buenos aires.

adventures in south america, part 1 (buenos aires)

i'm baaaack. never got around to blogging on the actual trip. for some reason, it felt like a real chore to sit down and type on painfully slow internet connections when the clock and pesos were ticking away. though i'd give you a nice little play by play when i got back. and as always, i think the photos tell the stories best.

it started out on a pretty long 12 hour non-stop flight from NY to buenos aires. long because i can't for the life of me, sleep on planes. it's so annoying!!! probably the most painful thing of travel for me is that i just can't sleep sitting up. even with drugs. just can't do it. so while martin and everyone else around me is snoring and drooling, i keep myself busy looking at the usually crappy in-flight films and magazines. never the less, we made it and arrived to a sunny warm day in BA.

we headed straight for our hostel, the gardenhouse which was nothing to speak of on the outside but perfectly clean on the inside. we were greeted by a sweet, young and hip twenty-something who spoke perfect english and showed us around the place. it definitely had that backpacker vibe with well traveled youngsters hanging about, checking their emails and reading travel guides on the torn sofas and hammocks which hung on the roofdeck. we had a private room that was perfectly fine. clean comfy bed with nice white sheets. and we even had a sliding door to shared patio deck complete with big hammock. only drawback was that we had a shared bathroom that seemed to be perpetually occupied. whatever. i'm not complaining for $10 a night.

we rested a while then headed into the main bit of san temlo. another slight negative of gardenhouse was that it was quite a good walk to the center of the hood. but whatever, we were only staying there one night. we walked up and down the old streets and checked out the scene. then stopped in the main plaza for a beer at golden hour. it was quite pleasant. we had dinner at des nivel which we thought looked like a good divey place. turned out this place was in all the guide books as every other table had foreigners scanning the menus. it was a famously cheap parilla (i.e. steak place). we ordered yummy steak, basic salad, fries, wine and dessert (delicious dulce de leche crepe with ice cream) which all came to about $15 each!!! this was living! we went home and slept very well. oh yeah, and it was my birthday! happy 32nd to me.

i was excited about the next day because i had reserved a room at the cocker which i had read about and was dying to stay after obsessing over their website. looked like my kind of place... a converted old building with all the modern conveniences. and the furnishings had a nice mixture of antique and modern. this was my birthday treat, to stay in a nice place for 2 nights. we were only a few blocks from it and were greeted by the owner ian and their new employee, will, both very sweet english guys. they gave us a tour around the place and i was STOKED. it was gorgeous. the house was impeccably decorated. they had kept all old touches of the original place in tact, like the cool painted tiles on the floors. there was a long spiral staircase that lead to the upper floors which eventually took you to the rooftop. there were two room on the main rooftop and another room one more flight up. the gardens on the rooftop were beautiful and i felt like i could just stop and stay there the rest of my trip.

it's funny because i've never been that bothered about accommodations before when travelling. as long as the place was clean and comfortable, it was fine. i just wanted to be where ever i was and didn't care about "service." maybe it's travelling in my 30s and wanting more comforts or just appreciating "the finer things." whatever it is, i realized after staying at the cocker, i really liked this level of satisfaction in a hotel. sign me up for "conde nast traveller!" HA!

we had a sweet room complete with big cozy bed, pretty art on the walls AND a huge wetroom with fantastic water pressure. god i loved that wetroom. made me want one in my future home. we slept amazingly well that night after staying out pretty late to check out a local milongra (amateur tango dancers).

breakfast in the cocker was also lovely. tea and coffee and juice and amazing pastries and toast and cereal and a plethora of ripe fruits all served in the cute dining room around a big square table. i also have to say that i've enjoyed hostels because it's easy to meet other travelers. but sitting around that big table in the morning, you got to meet the other guests. we had a very sweet couple from scotland and a girl from munich. all interesting and well-travelled people. we ended up going to dinner with all of them that night and had a fantastic meal at a place called balthazar (i think... will have to check) in san telmo. it was more upscale but again, we ate amazingly well... starters, a few bottles of wine, main courses, desserts and each only paid $30!

we decided to check out an official tango show (when in rome) at a place called bar sur, which was recommended to us. it was pricey, about $30 (martin haggled with the host). the place was very intimate and the dancers and musicians were very talently but it was just so touristy. like flashing digicams the whole time. honestly, if i were to do it again, i'd leave the tango show since you can see really great performers for free in the streets.

next day we checked out la boca which was a really cool, brightly colored neighborhood. again, total touristy vibe with handy crafts for sale and tango dancers dancing for change in the hat but the area was just groovy. we took a million photos that day. maybe my favorite picture taking day ever.

we lucked out at the cocker because they had two nights open up for availability, so we took em! just didn't want to move and it was just too good there. we also got to switch rooms which was fun. we checked out the recoleta cemetery which was vast. row upon row of huge statues and monuments for dead people. and of course evita's grave.

again, when in rome... we attended a soccer match of the local team, the boca juniors against mexico. totally fun!! singing and chanting the whole time. man, are they into their futbol. it probably would have been more intense if it was two local teams but it was still a good time.

our last night, martin took me out for my official birthday dinner. we were going to go to the popular las lilas in puerto madero which had been recommended by a few friends. but when ian, our host had told me about a place he preferred for the money, i decided to check it out. they had given us such good advice so far that i thought we couldn't go wrong. besides, he said las lilas was pretty touristy and i wanted to real deal. so we went to patagonia sur in la boca. omg! again, talk about service!! we were the first people there at a 9:30 seating. the place was dark and initimate, only about 8 tables and the waitstaff were the bomb.

it was a 3 course meal and each one was delish, especially the dessert! apparently it was famous argentinian chef, francis mallmann's place, where the restaurant was downstairs and his residence was above. we found out later when we asked to sip our wine outside and they showed us upstairs to the balcony, right through his living room where he, himself was sitting watching TV. talk about intimate!

our last day in BA was spent in ultra trendy palermo viejo. each street was occupied by some cooler than cool clothes or furniture shop. very designy. i felt like i was in nolita or williamsburg. the shops were cool but not really cheap. they were slightly cheaper than ny prices but i wouldn't say "deal." there were also plently of independent designer flea markets happened but nothing i hadn't seen before. i guess i was hoping for more. but it was still a cool hood and we definitely didn't get a chance to really explore.

we left for patagonia the next day which will be in part 2...

and here are the rest of the BA photos

hasta la vista

i know, i'm a total blogger slacker. it just seems when i get too busy, the blogging slides. besides, i'm just not an obsessive blogger at all. sometimes i wish i were. especially this weekend, when ariel was here and she met all these cool ladies, some of whom were her blog fans. weirdly kind of cool. i mean, the whole blogging community boggles the mind sometimes, like why would you want everyone to know your personal stuff? but i then again, there's something about it which is very cool. i can't quite put my finger on it but i suppose it has to do with being a part of a community that seems to be a very informed, tech savvy, finger-on-the-pulse bunch. and a cool community at that. i know know, just rambling with no point really.

the other thing is that i don't fancy myself a writer. and good bloggers are good writers. i just use this here thing to keep my friends updated with my life. not to be entertained with my witty banter. so perhaps i don't feel worthy. whatevs. i feel like writing today, so there.

part of my busy-ness in the last month or so has been the fact that martin was here. that always keeps me busy. in a good way. plus, i was working in-house for a couple weeks and have been working on my latest business venture on the side. it's not quite ready to launch yet but when it is, i'll let you know.

and the biggest news is that i'm about to take off on a big journey. i haven't quite digested the fact that i'm going to be away in 2 foreign countries (possibly 3 or 4 depending on what happens) for almost a whole month! i've noticed i've had bizarre guilt about going on this trip. like i don't want to tell people just how long i'll be away because i don't want to sound like some priviledged snob who can travel the world on a whim. it's not like that but sometimes i feel like people think that. and who cares really? but i still can't help the feeling.

travelling is my favorite thing to do in the world and i wish i could do it more. i mean, yeah, i'm away a lot but not on crazy across the world adventures. my last big trip like this was to new zealand for 5 weeks. that was my first real solo journey and it changed me in many ways. i've never had so many adventures in one chunk of time and i'll never forget any of them (sky diving, swimming in open water with wild dolphins, white water rafting, mountain biking, ocean kayaking, insane hiking, camper- vanning with a stranger, camping for 2 weeks straight, zorbing!). it was all fantastic and all i wanted was MORE.

so now is the time for more. this will be my first big trip with a boyfriend (which should be an adventure all its own). this will also be my first time in argentina and chile (patagonia). my first long trip in a spanish-speaking country. and my first big over night hiking trip. i don't feel ready. but i gotta say, the travelling i have done, i've always enjoyed figuring it out as i go rather than plan every last detail. granted, we may learn along the way that some planning may have helped but it'll be a learning experience.

we have the first 3 nights in buenos aires booked and the rest we have no idea. think we'll probably stay there a couple more days, then figure out how to get down to patagonia. we both want to do a big hike in torres del paine national park but we haven't booked any refugios (lodge type places where you can sleep on a cot and get hot food). i also have a bad knee at the moment and marts has a bad tummy. we will be a pair! we've been laughing, saying that we'll get down there and end up on the old folks bus pointing at the glaciers out the window instead of hiking on them. UGH!!

we're just gonna play it by ear. my ticket is a freebie... been saving up the miles for years now. and it should be pretty cheap down there. so i'm hoping it's not all totally lost. at least i have no expectations. that's the best way to go if you ask me.

AND i've been taking spanish classes so i won't sound like a complete idiot (hopefully!). i also plan to blog while we're there, so stay tuned...
adios amigos.

my boyfriends back (almost)

only 4 days til martin gets here! it will be almost 2 whole months we've been apart physically. amazingly, we've kept up great communication the time apart, speaking everyday (save for maybe 1 or 2 days). pretty awesome. and strangley, i feel closer to him now more than ever. we talk about everything all the time and are super supportive of our each other's life endevours. great relationship evolution if you ask me. i feel like one lucky girl.

i was on TV!

not last night but the night before, i saw myself on network TV, on the 11 o'clock news, right after "the golden globes." it was a little story about the night called cringe. not only was i shown as a member of the audience, they chose to display me as the ridiculous laughing girl. big old close-up of ME, laughing my ass off. it was sorta funny to see my face that big on television but also a little embarrassing. whatever, i was on TV!

i thought i was probably the only person who saw it, as i just happened upon the story on the news that night, but no! a couple friends saw it too. one of which was a long lost friend who sent me this hilarious email (which describes my "guffawing" to a tee):

I saw you on NBC 11 o'clock news last night. You probably already know this, but you were in Brooklyn at one of those diary readings. You were in full close-up doing what I would describe as a first-rate guffaw!!!

Really, it was a guffaw. Not a belly laugh, and not a snicker - a full on, bending forward, throwing head toward the ground,
hair covering face, and then snap!! Back up you came all pearly-whites and bright eyes. You are a good laugher. You can be an extra in my movies anytime.

Anyway, I guess you're back in NY. Too bad it takes Sue Simmons and the entire News 4 Team for me to know your where abouts,
but you can't say that they're not doing they're job. Those hacks at CBS, not to mention CNN, would never have delivered you to me so efficiently and lovingly and carefully packaged and presented. Yer cute!!! (from Jamie Hawkins)

death to my digicam

sadly, my digital camera that i purchased from martin is DEAD.
it's by no fault of casio. martin sat on it a week after he got it.
he sent it in to be fixed. they sent it back and i bought it off him.

now, the focus is broken. sadness.
i feel naked without my digicam. no more obsessive documenting of my life.
guess, i'll just have to get a new one.
wonder which i should get?
hmmmmmmmmmmm

p.s. I'M DYING FOR THAT IPHONE! HURRY UP JUNE.

thanksgiving in the UK

the holiday doesn't exist here but i managed to stuff my face with a whole proper thanksgiving meal on saturday night. greg's friend, another american x-pat, wanted to cook a big meal for friends so a bunch of us gathered together and ate and ate and ate. it was a mixture of 3 americans, 2 brits, a canadian, a brazilian, a dutch guy, and a pakastani. quite the cultural gathering. the night even ended with the 2 brits (martin and greg's girlfriend, tessa) in a heated debate. all in all, it was a lovely dinner party.

after gorging ourselves, we headed off to lucy's birthday party. how fun to check out a real londoners house party. there was a lovely mix of people there as well. from lucy's old childhood buddies, to cousins, to clubbing and work friends there were plenty of interesting folks to chat with. there were even rotating dj's and bartenders. they do it right here. martin and i didn't stay that long as we were full of food babies and needed to crash sooner than later. but it was good to be there.

i was also spoiled last week as i spent one day shopping at my new favorite store here, top shop. mmmm, so good. bought a few lovely little items for cheap. and then went with lucy on her actual birthday to a turkish bath houses where we lounged around all day being served tea and cakes and got cheap massages. such a treat! and yesterday, martin and i did a tad bit of shopping around spitalfields market. tons of fun stuff to look at and drool over and cool inspirational ideas. made me want to get my craft on. still haven't figured out what i'll make for xmas prezzies this year but got a couple ideas rattling around in my head.

pampered

not sure what i've done to deserve such kindness from the boyfriend but he's been so damn nice to me! i totally feel like i'm being spoiled. and i'm loving it.

had a really lovely weekend. we got out and about around town which was great. it's kinda funny that the amount of times i've been to this city, i still don't really know it very well. i mean, i know certain pockets but it really is vast and kinda complicated to navigate. but i'm getting better this time.

saturday martin and i went to the v & a museum to see this exhibition which was great. some really cool photos in there. then we took a long walk through hyde park, up to oxford street and over to covent garden. oxford was a nightmare as it was as nice sunny day and it seemed like everyone and their mother was xmas shopping. the holiday season seemed almost worse here than at home. don't know how that could be with the friggin glittery balls and shiny lights going up BEFORE halloween in ny this year, but every store was already playing damn holiday tunes here too. and the streets were bustling. to the super annoying degree. i couldn't really take it. i actually loathe the xmas hustle. and being in london isn't making me want to buy a bunch of crap any more than normal.

in covent garden, we bought me some new hi-tech german engineered hiking boots. they really have nice outdoor gear here, i gotta say. not cheap, but those boots are gonna last!
also got some new hiking socks and mittens. apparently it's going to be freezing. i'm not actually looking that forward to hiking in sub-zero temperatures but i'll give it my best... until i turn into a scottish popcicle.

from shopping, we rushed over to kentish town to meet with lucy, indrani and their old friend sass as well as indrani's boyfriend clay (not pictured). indrani and clay were stopping through london on their way to india for a month. we had an awesome meal at a local gastropub (the latest and greatest new cuisine fad in london... they've finally caught up and are making tasty food. ha! then it was an impromptu club night at jazz cafe. it was waaaay too packed, we had one drink, met the spice girls' drummer (random) and called it a night.

sunday was when the serious good treatment started. martin got up and cooked me a huge english fry up with fried eggs, toast, mushrooms, tomatoes, sausages, bacon and baked beans... served in bed! delish and such a treat! we then went to the barbican to this photo exhibition with his mom. it was my first time meeting her. a lovely, smart and kind woman. we seemed to get along just fine, making commentary together through the gallery. i was a bit intimidated as she is a history professor and had some pretty smart things to say. but i think i did alright.

it was then off to martin's old friend carla's house for an italian dinner that she cooked. yummers. and THEN i met up with ayian at cargo for the 2000black record release party. phew! i was pooped. but the show was fun and we managed to get slightly tipsy and get our boogie on. mart had gone to see his friend but when i came back to the house there was a hot bath waiting! bliss.

needless to say, i'm doing very well, am feeling very happy and enjoying my time in london very very much.

a day in the life

fitting title, as i'm sitting here listening to the beatles. just took a walk to my work space at greg's and back to martin's. mart is out on photo shoots today so i have the place to myself. nice to work on the big screen (that damn laptop isn't the best to work on).

anyway, i took a few shots of some scenes of shoreditch... my walk from greg's and back to martin's. pretty cool hood i gotta say. lovely old buildings with trendy shops. me likey.

i got to hang out with ayian (wanna's sister) last night. hadn't seen her in ages. we couldn't even remember the last time. was it in brazil or new years in london 4 or 5 years ago? was great to see her though. ayian was my original intro to the london music scene when i stayed with her in 1999 (i think). she took me around to all the best clubs and record stores and shops and restaurants in town. made me fall in love with this city. it was just so different from LA and i loved the energy of the music lovers here. i was obsessed. she and i have both pretty much grown out of the club thing. i mean we still love good music but our obsessiveness about what label was releasing the latest greatest track has since diminished. sure is fun to reminisce though, laughing at our old gilles days.

we had a yummy vietnamese dinner down the street then did some bar hopping around here. this sure is the spot. kinda reminds me of williamsburg with some groovy bar/club on every corner. fun times. like i said, i am excited to start exploring this weekend though. martin and i are planning to go hiking boot shopping tomorrow, as he's taking me to scotland to go trekking. good times ahead...

getting better all the time

day 6. i can tell this month is going to fly by. it's already been almost a week and it seems like i just got here. i am started to feel more settled now. i finally made it over to boots to get some much needed bathroom supplies. i was tired of smelling like a sporty active boy (only soap martin had) and my hair was craving conditioner. and my skin. my poor dry skin really needed some moistening. bachelor boys just don't think about that stuff. unless they are metrosexuals i suppose. mart has touches of metro but not in the hair/skin care products department.

we've worked out a nice little domestic arrangement as well. he cooks and i wash up. i've never been a very good cook. only when i really put my mind to it. but i usually can't be bothered. he seems to like it which is just fine by me. and i don't really mind washing the dishes. although he does seem to use an ungodly amount of them when cooking. no matter. the food is good and he appreciates not having to clean up. i think we've got a good rhythm going.

honestly it's a little funny to me to be in this position. domestic world. just haven't done it in ages. or this closely for that matter. living together. ultimately, i like it. but like i said before, it's just taking some getting used to. we're good together though. i can actually talk to him about how i'm feeling and he's really good about listening and taking action to change whatever is wrong. i think we both are. we're both pretty stubborn individuals but i think we're working on being more open together. YAY progress!

already have a busy weekend planned... friday night is james bond opening (have to see it, being in london and all), saturday mart might take me to a football (soccer) match, meeting with friends saturday night, sunday is a gallery and lunch with mart's mom (my first meeting of the parentals!), and might go out clubbing sunday night. i'm happy to be getting out and about. like i said, i haven't even really ventured out yet. good to have stuff to look forward to. and i have to say, it is nice not to have to get it all in. you know, must see bla museum, must buy fancy trainers, must go to bla bla club all before leaving in a week. nice to really feel like living here. i think i'm getting too attached to a certain someone though... it's gonna be difficult to leave this time.

adjusting

i'm here in london. day 5 of a month long stay. i'm sitting at the nice desk that greg has so graciously set up for me in his flat in shoreditch. just a couple minute walk from martin's, where i'm staying. i've got it pretty cush here. keeping my time between really nice flats. i wonder how i got so lucky sometimes.

i arrived on friday night. took the flight out with martin which went by just fine. getting pretty used to these 5-6 hour flights. i managed to get an awful headache on the flight though and was not happy to arrive and enter a mile long line to check my passport. martin just went right on through in the citizens line but i had to wait a painfully long time. i've never been really fond of the passport guys. they always seem to question you like you're a criminal. i figured i'd say i was just staying with friends because i knew they didn't like it when you said "visiting my boyfriend." god knows why.

my turn was finally up. right before i was called, i noticed a white american college kid ahead of me. the asshole passport official was giving him a really hard time, asking how long he planned on being here, how could he afford to be here, where was he staying, etc. when the kid said he didn't know where he was staying that night, the official was outraged and told him to go find out where he was staying that night and come back to him. "no one comes to london without an address." shit, i was next and i had to go to this disgruntled holier than thou official.

my heart started to beat thinking he'd see right through my little white lie. but i couldn't think of anything better on the spot. he noticed that i'd been here just a couple months before and got all huffy with me. how long was i here before? what was i doing here? who did i see? bla bla bla. then he questioned about my visit this time. who? what? where? when? why? he got all in my business about how could a freelancer afford to come here for a month? and take off 6 weeks of the year for that matter? he was really going for it and made me feel like a complete shit. i hated being questioned like that. what did he really think i was going to do? oy!

finally he asked to see my return ticket because he obviously didn't believe that i was going to leave. of course i didn't have it, as i'd just printed out my e-ticket to come, not to return. "well miss, you'll just have to go back to the front of the airport, print that out for me and come back through here." WHAT AN ASS!! after that hour long wait, i had to wind my way back through the maze of corridors of heathrow airport and print out a fucking return ticket? so i did it, with the worst headache of all time. back to the front, print out the fucker, then back through security, shoes off, computer out, the whole bit, then BACK THROUGH THE PASSPORT LINE AGAIN! i couldn't believe it.

next time i got a different official who didn't seem as bothered about my stay and let me through. what were they really going to do, put me back on the plane for christ sake? jeez! poor martin had been waiting there the whole time with the bags and the driver he'd ordered was waiting too. what a ridiculous ordeal. not the sort of welcome i was hoping for.

mart was very good about comforting me that night and making it all ok. made me tea, got me medicine for my headache, drew me a bath, wrapped me up in a blanket and hugged me. good boyfriend.

i was thrown for a loop again over the weekend which i can't really get into on the old blog. let's just say i wasn't feeling too welcome in another situation. just the cold british thing that i guess i just don't understand or get. it was probably me projecting, but that's how i felt.

been really busy with work too so haven't managed to have time to go out and see the city at all. i went out to co-op on sunday night which was good, but i just wasn't in top form. and i've seen a couple of my friends here but i've actually been feeling slightly depressed and out of my element. i guess i just didn't know what to expect and i'm probably more of a control freak than i think. i'm on martin's turf now. his house, his neighborhood, his people. before it was him in my environment. and now i can understand how he felt unwelcome or out of his element at times too. seeing both sides of the coin. which is good. healthy. just long distance relationship stuff that i don't get. or just don't know how to handle quite yet.

it's all good learning stuff though. just an adjustment period. doesn't it seem ridiculous to be complaining when i've got an amazing boyfriend, fantastic accommodations, lovely friends, and a cool city? it's just learning to give up some of the social and physical comforts i'm used to, which is perfectly fine.

we rocked it this year. I LOVE HALLOWEEN!!!

and now for something completely different

it’s been way too long. a jumble of a crazy work schedule, halloween insanity, making travel plans, adjusting to a new live-in relationship that happens to be a long distance situation, etc, etc has kept me too busy/tired to write. basically, it's been a couple nutty months.
so for work... i’ve been doing my thing freelance style and it’s been fine. nothing spectacular. just fine. kinda going with the flow whilst paying the bills but am definitely losing some steam, if truth be told. i’ve been looking to do a little something different. still in graphics world, but with an influence in film/tv/commericals. been talking about trying to do that full-time for some time now but haven’t had the time/desire to start a whole new something. well, the time has come. i’m taking a risk: i'll be taking a month off to put off the projects that give me an income and am going to focus on starting the new business. gonna brand my company, give myself a shiny new website and start getting on the horn to acquire the contacts i'll need in order to succeed at this new venture. it’s a big undertaking, but i’m up for the challenge.
that brings me to the long distance relationship. i met martin in july while he was working here. he happens to be my good friend lucy’s cousin and lives in london (that's a whole other story). we’ve been hanging both there and here (mostly here) and i’m about to hop on a plane and fly back with him to london to live/work there for a month. pretty exciting stuff! thus, i will be dedicating my days to working on the new business... away from my usual every day distractions. i’m psyched to actually get this all going. love and career and travel. all the good and important things in life coming together.
i hope to continue the blogging from there to keep y’all posted on my adventures. i hope to do a fair amount of clubbing cuz that’s what i do best in london. so funny, i kinda fell out of that world in NY, but when i was back there in august, i got a taste of what i was so obsessed with music-wise, back in the day and i was happy all over again. kinda stoked to have the option of going to hear my favorite dj’s/musicians whenever i want. should be good. and martin is also planning to take me to the wild parts of scotland (the place where he feels most free). how cool is that? all in all, i’m one lucky lady.
ps--dont’ make fun of me if i start writing like how madonna sounds now, ok? pip pip

had a lovely little emerson reunion for brent's wedding in cape cod last weekend. had an amazing time connecting with old friends and getting ridiculously crazy on the dancefloor.

best moment of the whole weekend: staying up til the wee hours of the night choreographing our group dance number to michael jackson's PYT the night before the wedding. the actual performance was classic. we were the hit of the party. brent and ari were pleased and it really got the party started. good good times!
