as i took a break from the dance area at the soul music summit in the park last night, i happened upon some young dare devils. i watched an 8 year old girl shimmy her whole body into a plastic crate and take off down a huge flight of steep stone stairs! she was stair sledding... a concept i'd never dreamed of. leave it to a totally urban upbringing to make kids smart enough and crazy enough to come up with the idea.
when i asked the most daring girl what it was like she simply stated "it's fun, but it really hurts your butt!" i couldn't imagine. the strange thing was there were about 7 kids there either going down in the crates or just watching and cheering on their friends, but there were no parents to be found. i was worried the kids would fall out of the crates and break their necks or chip their teeth. but man, were they having some great unsupervised fun. i got to thinking "shit, am i gonna be that lame mom who won't let their kids do daring stuff?" i don't want to be that lady. but i sure as hell don't want to pay for extra doctor bills. i'm torn. guess i'll just have to wait and see...
here are some photos i snapped of the crazies (how cute are they???):

How cute is that little girl in the orangey tank top?!
yep, she was my favorite. i was totally tempted to put her in my pocket and take her home. ;)
